The Medical College Campaign: 64,577 Signatures in Kurnool

The largest piece of documented public work on this site — a petition drive carried street by street across the city.

In late 2025 the Andhra Pradesh government moved to privatise seventeen government medical colleges and hospitals. The YSR Congress Party opposed the decision, and in Kurnool city the campaign against it became the most substantial documented effort of Ahmed Ali Khan’s term as city president.

A campaign carried ward by ward

Rather than a single rally, the drive was run as a street-level signature campaign across the constituency. Collection points were set up over several weeks at locations across the city — among them KC Canal Park, Osmania College, Narayana College and Masters Junior College — with the party’s youth wing carrying the effort into individual neighbourhoods.

By his office’s own final count, published in December 2025, 64,577 residents of the Kurnool city constituency signed the petition before the sheets were handed over to the district. A rally against the privatisation was held in Kurnool in November 2025.

Why the number matters

A precise figure — 64,577, not “over sixty thousand” — is a deliberate choice. It is his office’s own recorded count, and stating it exactly is both more credible and easier to stand behind than a rounded slogan. Every collection event is documented under Public Issues on the social-service record, each with its own date and source.

Coverage

The campaign is his best-documented work but among his least-covered by the press, which is common for sustained local organising. Where it did appear in print, those reports are listed on the News & Media page.

The figure of 64,577 is self-reported by his office and reflects signatures collected within the Kurnool city constituency.
